Dan Locke is a strategic finance guru and a subject matter expert in both startups and high growth businesses within eCommerce, SaaS, marketplace, payments, mobile apps, and energy. He has advised and worked for dozens of bankers, analysts, corporate executives, and strategic partners on investments and asset sales in technology and eCommerce. He has built and presented dozens of investor and board decks, raised multi-million dollar startup capital, and completed a successful M&A. Dan is adept at strategic forecasts, business planning, KPIs and providing sound, honest, and ethical advice.
He is based in Boston, MA and has previously lived in Santa Barbara, CA and Austin, TX. He has an MBA with concentrations in Finance and Entrepreneurship and a Masters of Science in Information Systems from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Brandeis University and studied Spanish at the University of Salamanca in Spain.
Dan was previously Director of Marketing Strategy for ezCater, the world’s largest online marketplace for business catering where he advised C-levels on eCommerce acquisition, retention, and online customer experience.
Prior to ezCater, he was the CFO & Head of Technology for Firenza Pizza Franchising, an emerging fast casual brand with over 100 units under development and 35 units opened within 3 years. Prior to this, Mr. Locke was Co-Founder and CFO for Persona Pizza Franchising where he led a multi-million dollar capital raise and merger with Firenza Pizza Franchising. In addition to traditional strategic CFO activities, he was in charge of the brand’s website, menu management, online ordering, POS implementation as well as the product management of the brand’s mobile and loyalty app and integrations with 3rd party marketplaces such as UberEats.
From 2012 – 2015, Dan was the Director of Conversion and Retention for BigCommerce, a leading eCommerce SaaS platform that powers 60,000+ online merchants. In this role, he was responsible for client and revenue retention goals and worked cross functionally with all departments to drive growth initiatives. Dan’s purview included retention cancellation programs and strategies, sales training and expectations, lifecycle marketing campaigns, client education and onboarding, upsell campaigns, professional services, pricing, and billing system best practices. He was responsible for analysis of core SaaS metrics and the competitive landscape of the eCommerce industry. Dan also led user research projects that drove the product roadmap. He built onboarding, retention, and Professional Services Teams from scratch and hired and managed up to 15 direct reports through a period of exponential expansion. Dan reported to and worked with C-levels providing recommendations and monthly board decks that summarized the retention business unit.
From 2010 to 2012, Dan worked in strategic corporate finance and then operations for Constant Contact which at the time was the largest SaaS based email marketing company for SMBs. He was responsible for the company revenue model, budgeting, forecasting, and advising the VPs of Customer Success, Sales, and Operations.
From 2006-2010, he was a Senior Industry Analyst in the Telecom and Media industries for Pyramid Research where he was often featured in the press and also as a guest speaker at technology conferences around the world where he discussed his forecasts on the future of mobile broadband technologies, applications, and business models.
Mr. Locke received his MBA with concentration in Finance and Entrepreneurship and a Masters of Science in Information Systems from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Brandeis University.
